DPD Officer Eric Tabbert of the Central Business District was the winner of this year's Smoot/Dollar Award.

Officer Eric Tabbert is retiring from DPD after 35 years of service. Officer Tabbert started off as a DPD beat cop in the 70�s, for the past 15 years Officer Tabbert has handled DPD public/private outreach effort to the private sector. Officer Tabbert organized Crime Watch Groups in Uptown, Downtown, Farmers Market, and the Cedars. Officer Tabbert presents personal safety training at 150+ citizen and security group meetings each year. 

Officer Tabbert developed the BOLO Alert e-mail network for residents, workers, and property owners in Central Division. Weekly Crime Alerts and Top 20 suspect mug shots are distributed to; the Residents Council, Hotel Association, Downtown Security Directors and Property Managers. 

Police credit Officer Tabbert with playing a big role in the 32% crime reduction Downtown over the past 5 years. In fact, 58% of 200 Downtown Impact Offenders are currently locked up -- many identified and apprehended due to the Top 20 mug shots distributed to 90 downtown office buildings, residential towers, and hotels.
